Sometimes kennel training is quick and easy, and sometimes it can be long and challenging. If you’re struggling with your puppy's training we encourage you not to give up! There are many valuable benefits to kennel training.

When we ask you if your dog kennel trained, we mean does your dog use a kennel on a regular basis so that it is not an unusual request for them (dogs thrive best on routine and familiarity), and does your dog seem comfortable in the kennel? Are they able to enter on command on their own free will or do you need to drag them in? And are they visibly stressed in their kennel?

If you’re having difficulty and ready to give up and you don’t know what to do next please contact us to help!

Your dogs attendance to a dog park should not be some kind of gold standard to achieve. It might surprise you, but it’s not a natural experience for dogs to gather in large groups and play excitedly, particularly on a frequent basis. If your dog doesn’t thrive in that environment there’s nothing wrong with your dog.

One more time for those in the back, it is not abnormal if your dog doesn’t enjoy the dog park.

There are tons of other ways to socialize your dog and provide him a balanced and very fulfilling life. Looking for ways to do this? Ask us how!

Be kind to your vet clinic!

As you may know both of our human healthcare and animal healthcare are experiencing critical staffing shortages and the problem is only going to get worse unless we work together. Careers that were once highly sought after are now riddled with higher than usual stress and abuse from the public. The less people working in these positions the worse it’s getting. We are losing the caretakers of our society. Let’s all be patient and respectful towards those left in animal and human healthcare and try to turn things around. We need them! And we need you to do your part. And if you’ve ever considered a career in healthcare I implore you to pursue it. It is desperately needed for more people to step up and provide the service. Let’s be role models and teach our children how valued these people are and bring some respect back to these difficult careers.

Do you have a ball obsessed dog? You might want to read this.

Did you know that your dogs favourite game of fetch could easily end up an emergency? Especially if your dog likes to catch the ball mid air or enjoys chewing on a ball. One size does not fit all. If your dog's ball can fit completely inside its mouth it could be a choking hazard! Although many balls seem to come in a standard size, some companies do make smaller and larger sizes. It’s best to take the time to buy the appropriate size for your dog. Play safe!

It’s terrifying and heartbreaking the number of

It’s terrifying and heartbreaking the number of dogs we’ve read about accidentally slipping away from their new owners soon after adoption. Sometimes even on the car ride home, or within the first 24 hours! Adopting a new dog can be very exciting for you, but you need to keep in mind that there is likely a great deal of stress involved for the dog. There’s a huge amount of change happening for a new puppy entering its new home, and even more so if you’re adopting an adult dog, especially one who has recently been transported a fair distance.

Although there’s loads of advice we would love to give, we wanted to narrow down this post specific to the safety aspect of your leash and collar combo.

Here are some helpful tips for the first day (and next few days, or more):

- Select ONLY a well fit Martingale style collar. This will prevent your dog from being able to slip out of its collar if it panics. Later on when you’ve built more trust/training with your dog you can get whatever collar you want, but for now safety first.

- A basic 4 to 6 foot leash is all you need for now.

- Keep a leash and collar on your dog in the car on the way home and be extremely cautious opening doors.

- Keep a leash and collar on your dog at all times there’s ANY possibility of your new dog getting away from you accidentally. Do not be lazy and assume your dog is able to be off leash in any situation.

- As soon as possible purchase an ID tag with your contact information and put on the collar. (We hope if you utilize the above steps this won’t be necessary but best to be extra prepared)

Puppy Preschool – Group Class This dog training

Puppy Preschool – Group Class

This dog training class is geared towards young puppies only as their unique needs are very different from an adult. This introductory level introduces several basic foundation commands such as sit, down, stay, come, leave it, watch me so that you can build the foundation of communication with your puppy and have him on the right path to good behaviour all around.

We also discuss important topics like potty training, crate training, general health, nutrition, grooming, nipping, chewing and jumping because we know these are common topics that new puppy owners have lots of questions about.

Most importantly we cover critical human and dog socialization skills which is your #1 defence against your puppy becoming a fearful or aggressive adult dog.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be aged 3-5 months old at time of start date and be current on puppy vaccines (small breeds may be slightly older pending Trainers approval)

$175 for 5 weekly sessions – May 19, 26 and June 9, 23, 30 at 5:20pm

K9’s with Manners - Group Class

This dog training class is geared towards any dog 6 months of age and older. This level is the perfect follow up after Puppy Preschool, but is also very suitable to Adult dogs who have received minimal training so far. We will focus on advancing a variety of basic commands which will aid in daily manners and behaviour, including come when called, and leash manners. We also work on enhancing your relationship with your dog through increasing patience, focus and engagement for better listening and compliance.

*This class is NOT suitable for dogs showing any signs of aggression*

$175 for 5 weekly sessions – May 19, 26 and June 9, 23, 30 at 6:30pm
